Thorley, Wanless, A B C Auto Gear Racing Collect Season Awards
Jak posted Monday July 19, 2010.
Following a successful 2009/10 season of racing, Qld Speedway Spares Series (QSSS) Champion Pete Thorley and the ABC Auto Gear Racing team collected their season Awards at the annual Sprintcars Qld Presentation Dinner in Brisbane this past weekend.
Thorley, now with a QSSS Championship on his résumé to go with his 2008 Qld State Title win, was presented with his Series trophy by Bill Mann from Qld Speedway Spares and Performance Wholesale. Pete and team principle Todd Wanless were also presented with the Car Owners Award and winner's cheque on behalf of ABC Auto Gear Racing, the team winning the Award with Pete as the driver of the #51 Tyrepower/Action Metal Recyclers Eagle Sprintcar.
Wanless, despite missing a number of events through the season due to business and other commitments, finished the season third overall in Sprintcars Qld Club Championship points and was also presented with his Award during the evening. Todd edged out Pete for the final podium position in Club points after Pete too missed some Club point races late in the season.
The accolades kept coming for the team, with Pete also receiving the coveted Crispy Award in honour of the late Greg "Crispy" McLennan who sadly passed away in 2008 but will forever be fondly remembered as a member of the Qld Sprintcar racing family and a good friend of the ABC team.
"Just a great night for the team" is how Pete summed up the Awards night.
"Really proud to be able to accept these Awards on behalf of the team and to share the moment with Todd, Steve, Buzzy and the guys after all the hard work they have put in during the season to keep us in contention and to finally win the Series."
"We've had a lot of great support over the past few years and I'm glad we've been able to re-pay the faith that has been shown in us. To win the Series in our first year with Tyrepower is pretty special and I'm happy that Rob Smith (Tyrepower Qld Marketing Manager) was able to share the night with us, hopefully next year we can do it all again."
September 18 marks the night the team begins their chase for more Championship success, with the opening Round of the Track Championship at Titan Garages Brisbane International Speedway the first event on the team's 2010/11 schedule, a schedule that includes not only 410ci Winged Sprintcar competition but also selected Midget and Wingless Sprint racing as well.
