A B C Auto Gear Racing Preparing For Hectic Schedule In Qld
Jak posted Monday January 4, 2010.

The ABC Auto Gear Racing team are busy preparing themselves for a hectic schedule of four races in five days this week, and it all starts this Wednesday night with a special mid-week show for the running of the Capalaba Wreckers Sprintcar Cup at Brisbane International Speedway.

Hot on the heels of the $10,000 to win Sprintcar Cup will be Round 9 of the Performance Wholesale World Series Sprintcars Championship and Titan Garages Australian Sprintcar Open on Friday and Saturday nights in Brisbane, which is then followed by Round 10 of World Series in Toowoomba on Sunday night.

The Open, paying $20K to win is the richest Sprintcar event in Qld and it has attracted no less than seven Americans and the best racers in Australia to Brisbane, meaning the ABC boys will need to have their "A-Game" at the ready when they hit the race track this week.

The team will again field three cars out of their race shop at Coopers Plains for these events; the #2 Aljon/Action Metal Recyclers/Self Serve Auto Parts J&J for Todd Wanless, the #51 Tyrepower/Action Metal Recyclers Eagle for Pete Thorley and the #69 Al's Roofing/Action Metal Recyclers/Kaeding Performance Maxim for American Brent Kaeding.

While Brent has unfortunately had some motor problems during the two International Sprintcar Series events in Brisbane that has hindered his runs, Pete and Todd warmed up for this week's races with a pair of podium finishes behind 2009 USAC Silver Crown Champion Bud Kaeding in Friday night's Summer Of Speed show at BIS. It's a handy and timely set of results ahead of this week's major events in Qld.

Both Todd and Pete have enjoyed relatively good seasons to date, with Todd recording a race win in Round 5 of the Qld Speedway Spares Series (QSSS) last month and while Pete is yet to claim his first victory of the season, his consistency has him on top of the QSSS Championship points table. Switching to a new Eagle chassis just ahead of the International Series has seemingly re-ignited Pete's renowned speed and passion to run the high side of the Archerfield raceway, something the 2008 Qld Champion is looking forward to putting to good use over the three nights of racing in Brisbane this week.

Charlton Raceway in Toowoomba also holds some good memories for the team, the Darling Downs speedway the scene of Todd's maiden World Series Sprintcars Feature race win during the 2005/06 Championship chase. Todd scored his second WSS win at BIS so both tracks have been favourable to him in the past against the WSS travellers, a record he will no doubt be hoping to add to on the weekend.
